1.Your own IT Department
This chapter lists many ways in which knowing about computers (or becoming computer
literate) is beneficial. Imagine that you are self-employed—you’ve started a business
out of your home. What areas of computing would be most important for you to
understand? How would you decide when to pay for support and when could handle
the problem yourself? How would an understanding of computer hardware and
software help in establishing and marketing your new business?
Some areas of computing that would be most helpful to me, being that I once owned a home based business governed by the state in which I live would be bookkeeping and accounting. Because auditing is very important as well as itemizing at the end of the tax year being able to scan and track these documents in an organized matter is key, so that they are easy to locate. When keeping up with clients, follow-ups and appointments being fluent in spreadsheets would help as well. I would decide to pay for support and delegate that responsibility when it becomes too much for me to keep up with. Being a business owner and leader you must realize when you are spreading yourself too thin. A leader can’t master everything. That is the reason why you hire and pay trained professionals to do manage an IT department. If this were to happen that is a good sign because that means your business is growing. Hope this helps!
